You may have noticed that a certain sci-fi film franchise has been in the news again. Thus BBC Four is devoting the night to Star Wars.
It begins with a repeat of the BBC Proms where there was a performance of the film music of John Williams, who composed the music for Star Wars and many other films. This is followed by two documentaries. The first, The Galaxy Britain Built, looks at the contribution the UK has made towards the films, with the help of costume designers, art directors, and the inventor of the lightsabre.
The second, Hollywood’s Master of Myth, profiles the writer Joseph Campbell, whose ideas about myths, storytelling and heroes were a major influence on the story of Star Wars.
The John Williams Film Prom is on at 20.00. The Galaxy Britain Built is on at 22.00. Hollywood’s Master of Myth is on at 23.00.
