We return for a second series looking at the lives of surgeons at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
This opening episode follows two surgeons. First is Ismail Ughratdar, a brain surgeon who is attempting to remove a tumour from a 20-year-old patient. For this operation, the patient has to remain conscious throughout.
The second is Jorge Mascaro, a cardiac surgeon, who is operating on a 71-year-old with a weak aorta. In this form of surgery, the slightest error made by Mascaro could make the difference between life and death.
Surgeons: at the Edge of Life is on BBC Two at 21.00.
