The war in Syria is such a horrid, complicated mess that it is sometimes hard to get your head around. Perhaps one of the most disturbing things about it is how little it is covered in comparison to stories closer to home.
This documentary therefore helps to restore the balance by focusing on some of the most horrific crimes committed by President Bashar al Assad regime. Sara Afshar looks into the documented disappearance of tens of thousands of people in the country, with men, women and children being sent to detention centres.
The documentary features testimony from three survivors of the centres, and follows investigators who are trying to bring justice to all these cases.
Syria’s Disappeared: The Cast Against Assad is on Channel 4 at 22.00.
