Nearly a decade ago today, the Royal Bank of Scotland collapsed at the height of the global financial crisis.

This documentary looks at the 24-hour period during which the government had to step in to take control of the bank and out of the hands of Fred “The Shred” Goodwin. Among those interviewed include the Chancellor of the Exchequer at the time, Alistair Darling; and journalist Robert Peston, who was working as the BBC Business Editor at the time.

The Bank That Almost Broke Britain is on BBC Two at 21.00.
