This documentary looks at the events that surrounded one of most tense World Cup matches ever, that had issues on and off the pitch.
In the 1998 tournament in France, Iran faced the USA. The political tensions between the two countries are obvious, but there were also other stories concerning the match. The Swiss referee interviewed in the documentary admits that Iran should have had a penalty, while they were plots and sabotages planned by anti-Iranian government groups and al-Qaeda.
The Great Game: Iran v USA is on BBC Two at 23.15.
