The tragic killing of the former Crimewatch presenter remains ironically one of Britain’s most infamous unsolved crimes.
Jill Dando, who also presented The Six O’Clock News and Holiday, was shot by an unknown assailant on 26th April 1999. There have been arrests, trials and retrials, but the killer has still never been caught.
This programme revisits the case, interviewing those who knew her including family members, fellow presenters such as Jennie Bond, and the then Director of News at the time of her death – current BBC Director-General Tony Hall. There is also a look at evidence not shown to the public before.
The Murder of Jill Dando is on BBC One at 21.00.
