Where better to talk about women’s suffrage than on a TV programme named after a late male broadcaster, and introduced by his son David.

The novelist Jeanette Winterson presents this year’s lecture from the Palace of Westminster. Marking the 100th anniversary of women securing the right to vote in the UK, she asks what we can learn from those campaigns, and also examines the other recent campaigns promoting women’s equality.

The Richard Dimbleby Lecture is on BBC One at 22.45.
