The ambitious and luxurious ocean cruiser Costa Concordia was a marvel of its kind – all of its clients needs were catered for, and for this January 2012 voyage, everything seemed to be business as usual. On the 13th of that month, it would strike a rock off the Tuscan coast. Within four hours, the ship was sunk and 32 people were dead.
Combining first-person accounts and testimony from the survivors and rescuers, as well as previously private footage from the night, experts are able to piece together why the boat was wrecked, and what could have been done to prevent such a disaster from ever being a possibility.
With this level of forensic detail, it can become possible to learn who was truly accountable for the tragedy, and also to mark what lessons can be learned for future cruises like it.
