Preview – Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Under the backdrop of cold-war Britain, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy dutifully adapts John Le Carr’s 1973 novel to the big screen for the second time – the novel had been produced as a television series previously. Performances from its all star cast make the film memorable with Gary Oldman taking the lead role while stars such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones, Mark Strong and Tom Hardy round off the talented roster.

After a meeting with a hungarian defector goes awry,  “control” – the upper echelons of the British intelligence agency – is thrown into disarray, forcing its leader (John Hurt) and his deputy, George Smiley (Oldman) to retire. the veteran spymaster, Smiley, is enlisted into a high-stakes hunt within the murky world of  corporate and political espionage to reveal the identity of a soviet mole in the british intelligence agency. With tensions between the two countries palpable and little room to manoeuvre, Smiley must find the double agent in a word where no-one can be trusted and where truth is commodity, ill-afforded by many.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy – Sunday 11:00pm on Channel 4.
