The final edition of this episode in the current series takes us to Mauritania.
In this west African country, women are considered more attractive if they are fat. As a result of this, some young girls are forced by their mothers in a country severally damaged by droughts. Some 11-year-old girls consume 10,000 calories a day, and others consume unregulated drugs to increase the pounds even more. Sahar Zand examines the inevitable problems arising from this.
Unreported World is on Channel 4 at 19.30.
