In 1968, students in France began protesting again Charles de Gaulle’s government, which resulted in further strikes across the country.

Joan Bakewell, who at the time was an interviewer on Late Night Line-Up, examines some of the causes that sparked the protests, including the Vietnam War and America’s civil rights movement, and what impact the protests had, especially on women.

Vive la Révolution! Joan Bakewell on May 68 is on BBC Four at 22.00.
