It’s the penultimate day of Russia’s 2018 World Cup and we see the two unfortunate semi-finalists, Belgium and England, fight it out – in something of a grudge match since the two sides met earlier in the competition – for third place.
England – who played on Wednesday night and went out of the competition thanks to Mario Mandzucik and his Croatian team-mates – will need to lift their heads if they want to beat an imperious Belgium side who many would have bet on to win the tournament. Belgium themselves suffered a galling loss to their French neighbours on Tuesday evening but have had a longer time to recuperate and will be looking to end their run on a high. The match promises to be an intriguing affair as rugged determination, scintillating quality and national pride will all come to the fore in this year’s third place play-offs.
