This preview comes with a warning: it’s hard for anyone to come out and say such a thing, but I hate the Paralympics and other similar events like this.

The reason why I do is because I’m on the autistic spectrum (Asperger’s Syndrome), and our disabilities are hardly ever catered for in these events, because most people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders are not considered disabled enough to qualify (you need an IQ under 75) we get left out most of the time. I tried watching the Paralympic Opening Ceremony last year, and I cried because I felt left out. I couldn’t watch any of the Games. To reference Channel 4’s own advertising, this disabled person doesn’t feel superhuman.

If however you are lucky enough to be one of those people that have a disability that people care about, you may be interest in seeing the likes of Hannah Cockroft, David Weir and others going for gold in the London Stadium at the Olympic Park.

World Para Athletics Championships is on Channel 4 at 19.30.
