Nicknamed “The Vampire of Sacramento”, Richard Chase was a paranoid schizophrenic and former patient of a mental institution who had a fixation with blood.
After being deemed as being no longer a threat to the community, Chase was released and went on to terrorise Sacramento in a month-long murder spree, where he mutilated his victims and engaged in necrophilia and cannibalism.
Chase was apprehended and sentenced to death, but he would take his own life before the sentence was carried out. His defence claimed he was not guilty by reason of insanity, but how will the psychologists and criminologists of World’s Most Evil Killers consider this most ghastly of cases?
