Film of the day: The Outfit

The Outfit - Mark Rylance

From the writer of The Imitation Game (Graham Moore) comes The Outfit, a gripping and masterful thriller in which an softly-spoken tailor (Mark Rylance) must outwit a dangerous group of mobsters in order to survive a fateful night.

Rylance plays Leonard Burling; he’s an English tailor – or ‘cutter’ as he prefers to be known – who has built his business from scratch, fitting Savile Row quality suits onto his Chicago neighbourhood’s Irish mob boss, Roy Boyle – and his acolytes.

The shop is also a drop-off spot for the gang’s various rackets. A locked deposit box in the back is witness to the comings and goings of hoodlums with cash stuffed brown envelopes and monogrammed correspondence for ‘the outfit’ – and when a gang war erupts between the city’s big families, the shop becomes the stage for a showdown.
