A slightly more engaging episode but it feels like they’ve stumbled upon it accidentally rather than planned the episode to be better intentionally.
I can’t say too much that isn’t an important revelation in the plot but far-flung ‘story nodes’ seem to be coming home to roost.
Episode 6 is almost entirely focussed on a single bad guy, a single problem, and how the titular J&H can help solve the situation. Bringing it all down to earth in this way makes the whole narrative feel more cohesive and engaging. Even the more outlandish fantasy elements and exaggerated British bureaucrats seem to ‘fit’ more seamlessly.
However, the beginning of the episode still made me cringe at every cliché but if future episodes follow this model closely, there may be the tiniest glimmer of hope for the rest of the series.
