Unreported World tracks the dangerous journey of a farmer who’s been forced to use people smugglers and crime cartels to flee the dire effects of climate change. Violent hurricanes and severe drought have decimated previously green and lush areas of Central America now known as the Dry Corridor. Harvests are failing and it’s the region’s rural poor who are the worst affected. Hunger and child malnourishment is widespread, prompting an even greater exodus of migrants to the United States. Reporter Guillermo Galdos follows the journey of Gonzalo, a farmer who can barely feed his children. Desperate to give his family a better life, Gonzalo risks his own by employing a network of people smugglers to illegally enter the United States. The film reveals how climate migrants have become a valuable commodity in a booming trade. In a region controlled by hostile border guards and crime cartels, some are paying the ultimate price.
