The trailer for controversial director Lars Von Trier’s new film Melancholia has been revealed. Described as “a beautiful movie about the end of the world” and a “psychological disaster movie” the plot sees Justine (Kirsten Dunst) and Michael (Alexander Skarsgård) are celebrating their marriage at a sumptuous party in the home of her sister (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and brother-in-law (Kiefer Sutherland).
Meanwhile, the planet, Melancholia, is heading towards Earth. There’s a vague hint of a supernatural element in the trailer, along with von Trier’s usual exploration of madness. Just add misogyny into the mix and we’ll have a full house.
It’s out in May. Personally, I can’t wait.
