Despite looking like a boxing movie cliché, The Fighter is picking up a lot of critical acclaim and is even tipped for Oscar contention this year.
It stars Mark Wahlberg as the legendary boxer Micky “Irish” Ward as he battles his tough upbringing and has to deal with his crack-addled older half brother Dickie Eklund (Christian Bale).
Adding some much needed glamour to the sweaty man-fest is the ever-lovely Amy Adams who will play Ward’s love interest.
