Johnny Depp stars as Frank, an American tourist used by Elise (Angelina Jolie) an English woman, in order to flush a criminal with whom she once had an affair.
Frank attempts a romance but soon finds himself pursued across Venice as they’re caught up in a “whirlwind of intrigue and danger”.
It’s directed by (deep breath) Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck who helmed The Lives Of Others, an utterly brilliant film about a German Stasi officer spying on a playwright in his own house during the 1980s. It won Best Foreign Language Film at the 2007 Oscars and as this is von Donnersmarck’s only film to date, The Tourist is hotly anticipated.
