Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston star as George and Linda in Wanderlust, a comedy about a stressed out Manhattan couple who live hectic lives. When George loses his job, they’re forced to move in with George’s brother in Atlanta but on the way stumble into Elysium, a hippie commune who have a slightly differnt way at looking at the world.
It’s directed by David Wain who worked with Rudd on Role Models which was surprisingly good and produced by Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Bridesmaids), so that probably tells you quite a lot about what tone it’ll adopt. Rudd is always a likeable presence (barring Dinner For Schmucks in which I wished he was dead about 8,000 times a second) and Aniston is also pretty familiar with this kind of comedy.
Pretty broad strokes so far though – a scene with a goat and Justin Theroux looks quite funny, another with a halucinogenic tea isn’t. Ha, ha, ha, they’re on drugs. Ha, ha, ha.
As it’s an Apatow film, we can probably expect some kind of life lesson to be wrapped up in the end – not unwelcome but hardly original.
Wanderlust is out March 2nd 2012.
