Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal and Naoko Mori are among the ensemble cast of Baltasar Kormákur’s fact-based drama. In May 1996, dedicated enthusiasts from around the world gather high up in the Himalayas to attempt an ascent of the world’s highest mountain. Among those at the Everest base camp are New Zealander Rob Hall (Clarke), a pioneer of the commercialisation of Everest via his Adventure Consultants business, and American Scott Fischer (Gyllenhaal), founder of rival outfit Mountain Madness. Their clients include experienced climbers Beck Weathers (Brolin) and 47-year-old Yasuko Namba (Mori), whose ascent will complete her ambition of conquering the highest mountain on each of the seven continents; mountaineering journalist Jon Krakauer (Michael Kelly); and ex-postal worker Doug Hansen (John Hawkes). Their attempts begin well enough, but unexpected delays and the onset of a ferocious storm will leave them fighting for survival at altitudes above 8000 metres. With Emily Watson, Keira Knightley, Robin Wright and Sam Worthington.
