If you caught Bladerunner 2049 recently but haven’t yet seen its daddy, Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic, kick off your shoes and settle in for a neo noir sci-fi humdinger that still works remarkably well in spite of its 80s vintage.
Harrison Ford is Deckard, the titular Blade Runner, an ‘anything goes’ type of cop whose role it is to hunt down and retire replicants (synthetic humans created by the all powerful Tyrell Corporation). Eeking out a living in a dystopian LA of the future, is not much fun and it gets worse when a rogue group of replicants led by Rutger Hauer (pictured) makes it back to Earth searching for answers from their creators.
Loosely adapted from Philip K Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Sheep When They Sleep? the film flopped on release and suffered several hamfisted studio edits to please audiences. However, Blade Runner has always had a dedicated cult following and is now rightly acknowledged for the masterpiece that it is.
