Film of the day: Nocturnal Animals

Amy Adams in Nocturnal Animals

Tom Ford’s brilliant second feature is a taut, dual-narrative thriller starring Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal. A successful LA gallery owner (Adams) who’s marriage is disintegrating receives a manuscript for an unpublished novel penned by her ex-husband, Edward (Gyllenhaal) – the idealistic, aspiring writer whom she betrayed and left heartbroken years before.

As she turns the pages and begins to read, a tale of intimidation and fear plays out on an isolated Texas highway that leads to a tragedy and a life changing sequence of events. Michael Shannon was Oscar nominated for his Stetson-wearing lawman Bobby Andes while Amy Adams was surprisingly overlooked for her strongest performance to date.

Nocturnal Animals – on Sky Cinema on demand and Sky Cinema Premiere.
