Film of the Day – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

3 Billboards

After bringing home four golden globes amongst a haul of other prestigious awards, 2017’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri makes its small screen debut after being made available on Sky Store this week. The films has rightly earned a number of plaudits but the performances of the film’s all-star cast should be placed at the very top of that list; Woody Harrelson convinces as the tormented Chief Willoughby, Frances McDormand becomes the essence of grief and hard-nosed determination as the mourning mother, Mildred, while the likes of Peter Dinklage, Sam Rockwell and John Hawkes turn in admirable supporting performances.

Seven months after the small town of Ebbing, Missouri was rocked by the rape and murder of a teenage girl, Angela Hayes, the victim’s grief-stricken mother grows impatient with the progress made in the investigating, taunting the town’s Chief of Police, Bill Willoughby, with a series of messages plastered onto three rental billboard on the roadside.
