BBC1 launches its latest drama series, Age Before Beauty, this week, starring Casualty and Soldier Soldier’s Robson Green as well as Primeval’s James Murray and Mr Selfridge’s Polly Walker. The series follows a Manchester-based mother – haunted by empty nest syndrome since her kids have just left for university – who decides to try to save her family business while keeping her dysfunctional family life from falling apart completely.
Bel Regan takes up control of her family’s faltering Manchester salon business after her kids leave home for university, hoping to fill the hole in her life with her new work – though that soon forces her into contact with a whole host of overbearing relatives. To make matters worse, all is not well in Bel’s personal life as a beautiful new personal trainer catches her husband’s eye while elsewhere Bel’s best friend and brother-in-law harbours feeling for her and begins to hatch a plan to see her marriage broken up.
