After winning viewers’ hearts during his two-season spell on the BBC drama, The Missing, French detective Julien Baptiste returns to screens this week in a brand-new spin-off show aptly named Baptiste.
Tchéky Karyo reprises his role as the titular detective and is joined in the new series by The Night Manager’s Tom Hollander and Jessica Raine. The last time we saw Tchéky Karyo’s Baptiste he was in the grips of a dangerous brain tumour, but it would appear in this sequel series that he is now fit, healthy and ready to tackle his most challenging case so far in the heart of the Dutch Capital.
Drawn to the streets of Amsterdam by the mysterious case of a missing sex-worker, Baptiste is dragged into a full-blown investigation at the behest of an old flame of his – the chief of police for the city. Still struggling to adapt to life after his brain surgery, Baptiste must find his feet again after he catapulted in an expansive and shocking crime-story which leads into the criminal underbelly of Amsterdam.
