Preview – Happy Birthday OU: 50 Years of the Open University

Open University

Former Open University graduate Lenny Henry looks back at the history of his alma mater, which marks its 50th anniversary this year.

Beginning with its origins as a “University of the Air” as described by Prime Minister Harold Wilson, Sir Lenny looks back at the archives of the university, from its early days of late-night TV programmes broadcast in black-and-white,  to it being one of the organisations behind landmark documentary series such as Blue Planet II.

He also looks at some of work the OU is currently doing today, such as space research.

Happy Birthday OU is on BBC Four at 21.00.
