The final edition of the occasional documentary series looks at classical music in modern times.
Suzy Klein is joined by Alexandra Burke as this episode investigates classical music from the 1980s to the present day. Burke interviews figure skaters Torvill and Dean who helped Ravel’s “Bolero” enter the charts after they skated to it in the Winter Olympics. We also see how Nigel Kennedy entered the music scene with his violin playing, and how Sir Simon Rattle helped to make Birmingham a centre of classical music.
We also see how the 1990s connected music to football thanks to the Three Tenors performing “Nessun Dorma”, and the launch of Classic FM.
Our Classical Century is on BBC Four at 21.00.
