The spectacular dance performances from seamlessly ordinary people in a random public place, although rather pointless, do leave a lasting impression and have a habit of bringing the community together.
The very reasons that inspired Steve Elias’ Yorkshire dance-off in the new BBC documentary, Our Dancing Town. The choreographer, who believes that the power of dance is life-changing, wants to help three Yorkshire towns celebrate their history, heritage and culture by pulling of magnificent dance performances.
This week Steve heads to the ex-mining town of Barnsley – his charismatic character soon has the locals signing up and even has a greengrocer in a backbend and a butcher twirling but will his work pay off? Or will the dance just end in a fumbling mess?
