It’s back. The Premier League restarts this week with Arsenal’s trip to the Etihad while surprise top-six challengers Sheffield United take on Aston Villa.
After a tumultuous season in north London which saw the sacking of Unai Emery and Freddie Ljungberg, Arsenal’s new boss, Mikel Arteta, returns to Manchester as he takes on Pep Guardiola’s sky blues. With the premier league title race, you would imagine, already tied up and a return to the champions league yet to be confirmed, Guardiola’s men will be focusing everything they have on securing their spot in the top four. But with Arteta’s gunners desperate to put their topsy-turvy season behind them and finish on a high, could there be an upset on the cards tonight?
Elsewhere, Dean Smith’s relegation-fighting Aston Villa side host high-flying Sheffield United with both aiming to add a crucial few points to their tallies before the end of the season. Villa will be hoping to use this game in hand to leapfrog the next three teams – Bournemouth, Watford and West Ham – which would see them sitting one point clear of the relegation zone coming into the weekend’s fixtures. Sheffield United will not be resting on their laurels, however, as they continue to fight to bring European football to Bramall Lane. The table is tight, anticipation is high and – as we all know – anything can happen.
Premier League – Wednesday from 6:00pm on Sky Sports.
