In this competition, hosted by Mariella Frostrup and Rev Richard Coles, amateur artists compete in various challenges. With a mentor to help guide the way, the artists must impress the judges before one of them is sent home.
In this episode the artists must enter the realm of the still life. The first challenge is standard: a table laden with fruits and objects must be represented with as much character as possible. The second challenge is much larger.
The artists are split into two groups; one group is creating a still life inspired by Van Gogh’s Bedroom in Arlespainting, and the other must reinvent Roy Lichtenstein’s Interior with Waterlillies.
At a private viewing the results are seen by members of the public, who can give their favourite artist an automatic pass through to the next round. The rest is up to the judges, Lachlan Goudie, Daphne Todd and Dr David Dibosa.
