The Light of Dawn: The Normandy Landings

As we rush headlong for the hardest of Brexits and continue to polarise views on immigration, religion and race, we’d do well to consider the sacrifice of the last generation of Britons who watched on as previously democratic nations slid into autocracy and fascism and set Europe ablaze in a conflict that cost the lives of an estimated 40 million people.

On the 73rd anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, Yesterday examines this pivotal moment in the fight against Nazi tyranny. It is a story of logistical as well as military triumph as around 150,000 allied troops began the destruction of Hitler’s armies in Western Europe and the liberation of civilian populations who, as we see in conflicts today, are the ones who bear the heaviest cost in terms of casualties and suffering.

Lest we forget!
