The Secret Life of 5 Year Olds

Bafta award-nominated series, The Secret Life of 5 Year Olds provides viewers with an exciting insight into the behaviour of young children.

After the discovery last week that boys as young as five are influenced by gender stereotypes, with some rather well formed observations as to their place in society – this week we head back to the playground for a party and the boys are in for a bit of a shock.

Tasked with a cross-dressing exercise, the boys are horrified to discovered they must dress as girls, while the girls are more relaxed revealing that they show signs of empathy from as young as three to four months and have better language and communication skills at five years old than boys do.

What is most interesting if how alliances and friendships are born, Oliver and Oscar bond over beauty products and their love of building and ball games, but once confident Naomi sparks an interest in Oliver, there is trouble in paradise when the boy’s new found friendship is put to the ultimate test.  Moving into the kitchen the children need to learn to work together if they are to successfully make a smoothie.

The Secret Life of 5 Year Olds, available on 4 on Demand until 11 March 2017.
