Disney: love it or hate it, you can’t deny the impact it has had on the world. Almost all the great animation in the world from around the world can trace its routes back to this.
This two-part documentary looks back at the life of Walt Disney. Using rare archive footage, it deals with a figure who was unpleasant as much as he was a creative genius. This is the man who won more Academy Awards than anyone else in his: 22 Oscars out of 59 nominations. This is also the man who recently has been claimed was racist and anti-semitic. This is also the same man who had doughnuts dunked in scotch for breakfast.
This first episode deals with his early career, including the creation of Mickey Mouse and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, while the second episode next week covers his later works like Cinderella, Mary Poppins and the creation of Disneyland.
Walt Disney is on BBC Two on Saturday at 20.45.
