Sarah Beenys New Life In The Country Ep8C

Property expert Sarah Beeny, her husband Graham and their four boys have quit their lives in London to start anew in the country. They’ve bought a semi-derelict former dairy farm in Somerset with 220 acres of land where they’re immersing themselves in everything rural life has to offer. They’re also building the house of their dreams – a modern stately home – in one of the fields. After seven months of building, the family are reaching the final stage of building of their new home. The walls of the house are now finished, and the floors have been laid and all that’s left to do is to make the home watertight before the rainy season arrives. Before the coronavirus pandemic, the family headed off to the annual mid-Somerset Show to celebrate all things agricultural from the area. We see how Sarah got on judging the cheese show and how Charlie, Billy, Raffey and Laurie fared when they entered one of their chickens – Titan the hybrid hen – into the poultry competition. Sarah and Graham contemplate what cottage industries they can set up at the farm and are intrigued by producing a food product with chilli. And since they have bees on the farm, Graham thinks they could possibly make chilli honey, so they head off to the South Devon Chilli Farm to sample their different sauces. Graham even tries the hottest chilli on earth before taking some plants home to create a surprisingly delicious condiment. On their mission to have the longest lasting slate possible on the roof of their house, the family take a trip to the Penrhyn Slate Quarry in Wales, where Sarah has a go at splitting slate. When their chosen tiles and windows arrive on site, they all fit perfectly. It’s been a long journey but finally the first stage of building their dream home is complete, and they can now turn their attention to the inside of the house.
