Sleepless in Seattle is the first of two films written and directed by Nora Ephron, in which Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan co-star.

After losing his wife to cancer, Sam (Hanks) and his son Jonah move to Seattle. When Jonah calls a local radio station saying that his Dad needs a new wife, reporter Annie (Ryan), inspired by the film An Affair to Remember, impulsively writes to Sam, and asks him to meet her on top of the Empire State Building.

This classic 90s rom-com has all the markings of an Ephron film; a gentle plot, funny lines and great supporting cast. It’s sad that Ephron is no longer around to create more of these feel-good films, but she has left behind a great legacy of work.

Sleepless in Seattle is on the Sony Movie Channel at 15.55.
