This series follows the team of midwives at the award-winning Royal Jubilee Maternity Service in the heart of Belfast – where 5,000 babies are delivered each year.
In this episode, nurse Esther and health care assistant Abed come to the Royal Jubilee for a planned C-section. Midwife Naomi is concerned about Esther’s platelet levels so does blood tests to see if they can proceed without a general anaesthetic. Abed missed the birth of their first child in Kenya and is worried this will happen again.
Kelly and Steven have come for an induction to start her labour. They previously suffered the loss of baby through an ectopic pregnancy and worried she would never conceive again. Kelly’s labour progresses slowly and painfully until it is decided that a C-section is needed. Midwife Fiona has had a busy shift which gets even busier as Laura and husband Mark arrive in the delivery ward. Laura’s last baby came fast and so Fiona prepares for another quick birth.
