We’ve all been there: having friends telling us “you absolutely must watch this show” and going on about how amazing it is. But the problem nowadays is the fact that with all the different networks and streaming services creating content at an alarming rate, there’s a vast amount to choose from. And something that one person likes may not appeal to another. But then, there are some shows which are simply unmissable, and the viewing figures and critical reviews say it all. Here we have selected three recent shows that we believe absolutely everyone should watch.

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is hard to avoid, and fans of the series will know how scary it can be venturing out or opening up social media when you haven’t caught up with the latest episode. The epic HBO fantasy based on the exceptional Song of Ice and Fire books by George RR. Martin is packed full of twists and turns that keep viewers on the edge of their seats, and coming back for more. The viewership has increased year upon year since the release of the first season in 2011, to the extent that 16.5 million people tuned in to watch the Season 7 finale. Game of Thrones has permeated mainstream culture in a way no other TV show has ever managed to do, and the Westeros-based series has turned into a sprawling franchise. Now there is a Game of Thrones online slot game at Guts.com an online casino website, along with console games from Telltale Games, and board games like Game of Thrones Monopoly. If you are still wondering why this series is everywhere, you need to check it out.

Line of Duty

The intense BBC drama Line of Duty isn’t anywhere near as big as Game of Thrones on a global scale, but it has been praised by critics over the course of its four seasons since it was first aired in 2012. In a short space of time it has become the most popular BBC2 drama series of all time, and also won the Royal Television Society award for Best Drama Series. It is a hard-hitting police drama based in London, and the action follows a group of anti-corruption detectives as they work to bring down antagonists who may or may not be crooked. It’s hard to think of a better-written show in terms of twists, cliff-hangers, and unexpected outcomes. Line of Duty is easily one of the most binge-worthy shows out there, but unfortunately, fans will have to wait until spring 2019 for the next instalment of the series.

Stranger Things

Netflix has been responsible for a number of fantastic shows, including Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, but Stranger Things is arguably their best offering for a wide range of different viewers. The sci-fi series has it all: excellent performances from the actors, with Winona Ryder in particularly good form; a nostalgia aspect; and a gripping storyline, which makes binging it the only option. Older viewers enjoy the references to classic movies from the ’80s, while younger generations are doubtlessly enticed by the excitement of the roller coaster-like storyline. So far, the series has swept the Primetime Emmy awards and has also been nominated for Golden Globes. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it on Netflix today.

It’s hard to think of many shows that are simply unmissable, but these three are definitely up there. They may even one day go on to be described as some of the best TV series of a generation. Make sure you don’t miss out on this television gold.
